Roundabout Thinking in the Roundabout Capital #6

* Rocky and Orrin finally left town after the former insisted that climate control can be achieved by each of us doing the right thing, and the latter claiming the global warming thing is science fiction. Orrin probably had his mind on more important matters (flag burning.) At least he was polite about our smog, pretending not to notice.

* The guvmint is planning to spend $8 billion to prevent a bird flu epidemic. Mandatory vaccinations are being discussed by our federal public servants. Meanwhile, the head of The Center for Disease Control stated on Friday, "there is no evidence of any evolving threat to human beings." Can we forego the shots and save the taxpayers' money? Stay tuned.

* The American people have not been treated to a rock 'em, sock 'em investigation in decades. We might be shocked, shocked to uncover the activities of The Federal Reserve and Central Intelligence Agency. Let's sell the idea to Congress. We need to know!

* Why do THE SPECTRUM'S editorials look like they were written by a committee? "Volunteers," you say? How about a volunteer committee?

* President Bush and congressional leaders warn that Social Security will be flat-busted by circa 2050. No problem. They'll just have to pay back the $3 trillion that several presidents have "borrowed" from the system since 1966 to ease the problem.

IT'S ALL SO SIMPLE.
